Natalie's First Day of First Grade

Natalie was beyond excited to start school! I wish the excitement had lasted- she is now trying everything from playing the sick card and staying in bed until the last possible second, to suggesting we pray about doing homeschool. her teacher is VERY STRICT, and Natalie has had to move her clip to "think about it" three different times- once for using her math counting blocks to make a tower and as far as I can tell the other two were for talking when she wasn't supposed to be. she cries when I drop her off and says things like "I just want to be at home with you! family is more important than school!" she also hasn't quite made friends yet. yesterday she told me that her best friend likes to make other friends so she just played with a ball by herself at recess. =o[ I also think the reality has just set in that school is a lot of work, and that she can't just do whatever she wants. it always takes a long time to do her homework, even though they said it should only takes 20 minutes a night. once it took us an hour and a half! and finally I think the huge event of having a baby join our family is throwing a wrench in the system on a lot of levels. hopefully things settle down by next month.

anyway, the night before school started she got her before-school-blessing from kent, and felt more ready than ever. the morning of, she woke up at 4:30 to ask why it wasn't light yet and was worried about missing school, and then appeared at the top of the stairs dressed and ready to go at 6:15.

the entire way from the car to her classroom she cheered and skipped around shouting things like "hooray for school! I love school! school is great! let's go to our first day of school!"
here she is outside her classroom.

of course the other kids wanted in on the picture action =o]

we went in and found her desk- she was beyond excited!

here she is saying goodbye =o]

and the next day- just as excited! =o]

I hope it turns out to be a great year for her!!
